In Parkcity we met Kai the Mountain-Cowboy-Indianman :-)

All four of us - that is Keith, Kai, Natina and I - had great fun that day ... hiking ... drinking ... eating ... playing and laughing as you can see ....

We met Kai on our way to SLC coming on I 80  from CA on a rest area at dusk. What a pleasant surprise he was. Keith started a little chat - we joint in and found out that he was a German coming from San Francisco heading for Parkcity to spend the winter there during the Olympics games. We decided quickly to hook up again in Parkcity, which was not such a bad thing to do after all. Parkcity is a nice little town, a bit touristy, but has many different stores, pubs, galleries and restaurants.  We arrived early and strolled up the main street - I saw him first ... I spotted Kai right there by a window seat in that cow-store bistro  (tons of cow stuff) having breakfast. Great, this way we did not have to wait one more hour. We all stepped in - hallo - Kai finished eating - next  a drink was announced - we searched for a pub and found a very nice one in an old brick building from 1880/90 - a game of shuffle board, and then we drove up the mountain to find a nice spot for a hike, which we did. Unfortunately, the weather was not all that nice to us and half way up the hike, it started to thunder and rain. Nati and I decided to turn around (we chickened out) - they guys boldly continued. We waited for the them in that  little village (Deer Valley?) - which was dead by the way - nothing open to sit and have a hot tea, but I found a nice winter coat in the only open sports store ...  well, anyway Keith and Kai returned sound and safe, a bit wet, but happy.
The afternoon was spent in different ways. We drove Kai home to do laundry and decided to pick  him  up for supper around seven. Keith took a nap in our lovely little Bed and Breakfast Hotel called Imperial built in 1904. Natina and I did some more shopping - well, we tried but where not lucky ... ok, one can see it one way or the other ... Nati did not get lucky, she was looking for a present for her brother David, I did .... I saved money ;-). We ended up in a Brewery testing some domestic beer, which was not all that bad. Back to the Hotel, Nati woke Keith up - who had a most excellent afternoon delightful nap - by pulling hair on his hairy legs, which woke him up abruptly,  then we changed clothes to get ready for our lovely dinner appointment. We left in good mood to pick up Kai. (Nati said that I forgot to mention that Keith tried to spank her with the hair brush on her behind for pulling his hair, however, that  turned out to be a difficult undertaking, because she was like a weasel :-) )
On the patio in front of the house were Kai is living - a surprise was waiting for us.  A fully dressed cowboy-indian styled mountain man got up the chair and started to walk towards us .... he really looked great - as you can see on the pictures below - I can only speak for me, but I am sure the others felt the same when we saw him walk down the yard .... wow ! ---  for a minute or so ... not much longer (it never takes us long to find our speech again ... at least not Nati and I) our mouth was back in gear again ... certainly he drew lots of attention walking up and down the main street of Parkcity, especially the little ones turned their heads and looked with big eyes.
We had a great dinner in a nice, little, fancy Italian restaurant with a good bottle of French red wine. Kai was most pleased with his great tasting steak he ordered. (after weeks of pasta)  Keith, Nati and I exchanged some of our food, it all was very good. Again, I forgot to mention a very important issue ... the setting sun shining through the restaurant window. It really did not bother me that much until it was mentioned to me, then all that talk made me be aware of it ... or may be I was persuaded to be aware of it - a little discussion followed  ... what ever, it really was not an issue after all. We all left the place with a big smile on our faces ready for our next task. The evening was still young.
After supper, we walked one more time down and up the main street, checking out all kinds of stores, bought some great art photography post cards in a gallery - found all kinds of brass sculptures ... I captured a couple with my camera  ... and to end this lovely day, we went back to the pub we found in the morning to fetch  one, two, three  ... drinks while playing shuffle board again. That really is a great entertaining game. Finally, it was time to leave and we aimed for our car - parked in front of our Hotel  - to drive Kai back to his place, but on our way home to the Hotel, we heard some blues music ... it came out of a little room down below our Hotel - a group three men - I believe - and two women where gathered to play the guitar and drums  and to sing the blues. The sound of music literally drew us over - Keith thought that this would be a great way to end this day and we just walked over and we were right welcomed in - some red wine was offered to us, which was really nice of them. The atmosphere was great and the songs most pleasant. The rhythm found its way into our fingers, hands, legs and feet - then it was time to say good bye and the guitars were put back into the covers - good by to the musicians - a group of people getting together ones a week to sing and play music. We drove Kai back to his quarters said good bye ... see you soon .... keep in touch ...  after exchanging email addresses of course ... before we fell tired into our beds. Poor Kai, he had to get up early to fetch his bus for Canada ... sometime around six in the morning, if I am not mistaken ... well, the next morning Keith had the idea to drive by his home ... why, we never find out, I have an idea but then I might be wrong, well, what ever, we were on our way down to SLC when he turned right and then left again ... and then we passed Kai's  home -  there was a tired man hanging in a patio chair somehow resting or sleeping. We turned around with our car - Keith said that it was Kai, we - no ... not possible .... he is in on his way to Canada ... that person on the chair heard us driving by saw our car - got up and ... it was Kai ... this time in shorts and sandals ... he did not miss his bus as we found out ... he simple mixed pm and am up ... we all had a good laugh .... one more time to hug and good bye and see you ... have a nice trip and take care ....

Hey, Kai, have a great time in Parkcity .... see you soon ....
